Here are the meeting minutes from our 2014 Post-Season Shorebird Meeting which took place on October 1st at the St Augustine Alligator Farm. A big thank you to Gen Anderson and the St Augustine Alligator Farm for hosting us, and to everyone who attended, collected shorebird data, and helped with stewarding this year! We will hold a pre-season meeting in the spring to plan for next year’s breeding season and hope to see all of you there!

St. Johns SP post-season meeting

St Johns Shorebird Partners,

Thanks to those of you who attended the post-season meeting on October 7th and to those who spent time surveying beaches and rooftops this past season.  The notes from the meeting are below along with the presentation that Alex Kropp gave and other materials from the meeting:

Minutes: SJSPOct2013

Presentation: FSD2013summary_StJohns

Surveys & count windows: SJSurveysWindows

The pre-season meeting will be planned for February.  Some to do items before nesting season begins next year are:

-          put chick fencing on rooftops to keep chicks from falling off, contact Anna Deyle (anna.deyle@myfwc.com) and Jess Rodriguez (jess.rodriguez@myfwc.com) to volunteer for these activities

-          contact your rooftop building owners to let them know they should be doing any repairs/maintenance to their rooftops now before nesting starts in March, make sure to thank them for hosting endangered/threatened species on their roofs (thank you post card)

-          if you have not done so already, get trained on how to record and enter nesting data into the Florida Shorebird Database. Alex Kropp can lead a training before the nesting season next year, contact Anna Deyle (anna.deyle@myfwc.com) if you would be interested in attending.

Let me know if you have any more ideas.

Thanks,

Anna Deyle, NE Assistant Regional Species Conservation Biologist, FWC
